Mary Margaret was a gifted storyteller and her son wisely uses her as his narrator. He makes his Mother the source of vividly poignant and colorful recollections of life lived in Charleston and then in the red clay hills of rural North Georgia. No easy life... but one which was keenly observed to provide the milk of loving kindness to her family through often ardous and difficult circumstances.
Aficionados of Southern Literature who read this book will put it high on their list of worthy efforts in that genre.
The big takeaways from this memoir covering a life lived from the 1920s through 2015 are the tragic and humorous vignettes Mary Margaret serves up with an economy of verity and compassion.
Mr. Bailey entirely succeeds in resurrecting his late mother's life and sharing it with a reading public. Sometimes we are content to read for information. With this book we get valuable insight into a human life that makes its observers lives more thoughtful and complete.
Loving Mother and Good Son...well done!
