As seventeen-year-old Emma struggles with her new vampire gifts and cravings, her grandmother isn't surprised at all. Hinting that she knew this day would always come, she leaves to get help, promising to explain everything when she gets back, but she never returns. Promising to help her locate her missing grandmother and uncover her ancestry, she brings Emma to the Haven, a sanctuary for half-blood vampires. Thrust into a war between the Immortal vampires and the half-blood rogues, Emma's simple life begins to unravel as blood and secrets entwine to reveal a dark history and an even darker destiny. A very light easy read between both the storyline and the characters dialogues.
It felt very rushed and more insta l surface level character development then I’d have liked, I do want to continue on with a sequel to see if maybe it’ll help flesh it out but as just a first in a series it’s mildly lacking in that hook and sink for me. ( )

I enjoyed this because of the vampire involved in it. Being turned into a vampire has its ups and downs, when Emma turns and finds herself in a world she did not know about. This book was entertaining with the vampire lore and found family.

Blood Born by Shelley Wilson is about Emma, a 17 year old who is almost murdered by a vampire but is turned into one. Being thrown into a war between vampires and the half-bloods doesn't make her transition any easier.
This book was a quick and entertaining read. I thought it was refreshing to have the vampires not be indestructible beings, but still stronger and faster than humans. I do think there's potential to delve deeper into these characters. There was a lot of surface level interactions. I know this is a teen book but I think future books could continue to probe into the characters more. There's potential if characters are fleshed out in future books ( )

Thank you for the ARC to read. This book is about Emma, a girl who is turned into a vampire, who finds out her family has secrets that she can't outrun. I wish I could write an amazing review about this book, but I can't. I was hopeful for an amazing plot and interesting characters with a genre of fantasy and vampires. But I was mostly let down. My biggest problem with this book is that there isn't really strong emotional ties to anyone. The characters don't really stand out too much from one another, so when something happens in the book, Emma is upset, but there isn't any attachment for the reader. Like we're told the MC is upset, but we don't really feel it. She just moves on and that was that. I felt that throughout the entire book. If the characters were flushed out better and maybe given more life, the reader could feel emotions toward them. I also felt the story was just rushed. Nothing is really processed, it just moves along. I will say that it's a fast read and I did want to finish it. I am curious on some of the things that happened and would want answers to questions, but honestly I'm not sure I'd rush to grab the sequel if one is wwritten. Check it out for yourself, though. This might be right up your alley. ( )
