This book is about a little girl that spends a day in town with her mom running errands. Items were given to her to put inside her pocketbook. She left her pocketbook on the bus. The driver returned it. The girl drew the driver a picture to show her appreciation. On her journey, she is given items to put into her pocketbook. After making it back home she realizes that she left her pocketbook on the bus. The bus driver kindly returns her pocketbook with all the items still in place. That night she decided to draw a picture for the bus driver to show her appreciation ( )

Great for determining importance because the situations are relevant to children's everyday lives making it easier top support what they already know. Situations are easier to focus on when children can relate to the main character in the story. Would use for 1st & 2nd grade. ( )

31 months - Another thrift store buy for 50 cents. Drawings by Felicia Bond of "If You Give A..." series. The story is very matter of fact but really cute to watch the little girl go on an outing with Mom and fill her once empty pocket book with little souvenirs. ( )

The Big Green Pocketbook by Candice Ransom tells the story of a daughter spends the day with her mother while they run errands. It is evident that the daughter adores her mother and wants to be just like her. She has a big green pocketbook, similar to her mom’s big blue one. She wants her pocketbook to be filled up just like her mom’s. Many children can relate to the character of the daughter because they want to grow up to be just like their mom or dad. I remember that I did. The story is told in first person in the daughter’s perspective, who thinks running errands is a big deal. Each place that they go, the daughter has something to do. For example, when they go to the insurance office, the daughter uses a typewriter to write her name as her mom fills out forms. She loves that she gets items to fill her huge pocketbook. The message of this story is to appreciate spending time with the special people in your life, even if it is something as simple as running errands. ( )

I really enjoyed this book! I liked this book for many reasons. The first reason I liked it is because of its highly descriptive language! One example from the book that portrays the descriptive language is "when he leans over to close the door, his leather seat creaks." This is just one of many examples throughout the book. Another reason I enjoyed this book was for the illustrations. They really helped the reader picture what was happening, even though the descriptive language was surely enough. The illustrations simply added to the enjoyment of this book. The last reason I enjoyed it is because the main character was very easy to relate to! I can remember having days with my mom just like this little girl had. The main message of this book is family. I would definitely keep this is my classroom library. ( )
