This novel is a captivating and intense mystery that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end. The characters are complex and well-developed, with their own personal struggles and demons that add depth to the story. The multiple perspectives provide a unique insight into the case, making it an intriguing read.
The writing is vivid and descriptive, allowing you to easily visualize the cold, isolated setting of the mountain town of Fraser, Colorado. The story unfolds at a steady pace, revealing secrets and twists that keep you guessing until the very end. The attention to detail is impressive and the accuracy to the 90's theme adds to the authenticity of the story.
The Fear of Winter is a raw and gritty crime novel that is sure to captivate any reader who enjoys a good mystery. The character development and attention to detail make it a memorable experience, and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves a well-written and engaging story. I look forward to reading more from S. C. Sterling in the future.Cette critique a été écrite dans le cadre des Critiques en avant-première de LibraryThing. Pretty quick read with a bit of a slow start but once it gets going, it gets going. It does say that it is the beginning of a series and I enjoyed it enough that I will continue it. A decent thriller/mystery.Cette critique a été écrite dans le cadre des Critiques en avant-première de LibraryThing. Haunted by guilt after the disappearance of his daughter Megan, Tom Floyd hires private detectives to try to find leads once the police investigation turns up nothing. This story is much like the film Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri where the parent of a missing girl posts billboards stating the police have done nothing to solve the disappearance. This is short book, only 137 pages, and I found the plot a bit confusing because of the number of characters. This was a quick read, and I like mysteries so why not read it. It was gripping (literally every page of this book), I really liked that we were shown the impact of this missing person case on the family - it was heartbreaking but it also felt realistic.
This book was a good start to a series, I cannot wait to read the sequel(s).

"The darkness and cold of the Colorado winter is the perfect setting for the bleakness of the novel as Sterling examines what could make a young woman disappear and the unraveling of a marriage." — Book Life (Editor's Pick) "This novel is a classic missing-persons thriller. I'm a huge fan of detective novels, and this one is right up there with some of the best. It's a perfect winter read that fans of Harlan Coben, Joe Nesbo, and Michael Connelly will love."
