While Rowena Cherwood did not go around boasting of it, she had a tidy legacy from her parents. Free to choose the life she wanted, and unwilling to live with her overbearing aunt, she accepted a position as Lady Bradwell's companion. A spinster of twenty-seven, Rowena gave little thought to marriage--until Lyn Bradwell, Lady Bradwell's long absent son, returned to England, their chemistry was immediate--and fiery.Love was the last thing on Rowena's mind--or Lyn's. Lady Bradwell, impatient for her companion's happiness and her son's, wondered how long it would be before her companion and her son would open their eyes.… (plus d'informations)

The book, 'The Heiress Companion' by Madeleine Robins, was okay but nothing to write home about. It was lacking what I love in the regency romance genre, witty dialog. ( )

Nice! I'm sorry it took me so long to read it - I got it as an ER book in *gulp* 2011. As a Regency, it's excellent - the language works, the characters are not modern ones in period garb but react as people of the period, and I didn't see a single anachronism. As a story, it's a lot of fun! Fluffy, but fun. Rowena is capable, intelligent, broadly experienced, and not shoved into a corner by lack of money or reputation. Lyndon is...younger, in some ways (though I think they're pretty close in actual age), also intelligent and capable, and willing to admire a woman with the same characteristics. Both great people. Jack and Jane suit perfectly, and I suspect Margaret and Ulysses will also do well. Can't imagine who Lizzie will suit, unless she gets a serious shock and corrects her ways. The book is utterly full of romances, which is noticed, mentioned, and admired by the characters. Mrs. Cherwood is the most unlikely character - why, exactly, did Margaret's father marry her? But she makes an excellent foil for the rest of them. A very enjoyable book, worth rereading, and I'm looking for more by this author - she's good! ( )

This was a delightful story with an independent heroine who isn't stereotypically young and spunky. Very well-written and engaging. ( )
