Another over-the-top twisty thriller by this prolific author.

I admit that I keep reading McFadden's books and always finish no matter how crazy they get. I now know to guess wildly out of the box to see if my imagination can anticipate what the characters are going to do. I rarely can. And this was no different.

Tricia and Ethan are house hunting and meant to meet a real estate agent for a tour when they get stranded in a remote mansion during a snowstorm. When they realize they must spend the night, their snooping reveals that they are occupying a fully furnished home that belonged to Dr. Adrienne Hale, a well-known author and psychiatrist who had vanished several years earlier. Tricia finds a secret room full of audiotapes of sessions with patients recorded by the doctor. She decides to listen to these tapes and discovers some very shocking secrets. But there's something else: Tricia soon realizes that she and Ethan are not alone in this house.

So unrealistic and unbelievable, but that's what I've come to expect. Rarely do you get to meet so many hideous characters doing such horrible things. I both listened to the audiobook and followed along in the e-book and it was very fast-paced and entertaining just to see how far the author would go with this story. If you're hooked on shocks and surprises with quite unpredictable narratives, this author's books are for you. ( )

All of the author’s books are similar so I wasn’t surprised by the ending. ( )

Wow ! I really thought I got the mystery figured out. In the beginning I was even disappointed because I thought I solved the mystery and saw the twist early on and then towards the end the author started unraveling the twists and that just blew my mind. I was not expecting that ! The surprising turn was a jaw-dropper and the characters were certainly more deranged than the characters in her Housemaid series. However, I was grieved for the one person who was a victim by circumstance; I would've wanted that person to survive but I won't spoil it for others. ( )

Wow! This book had me guessing and as soon as I thought I had it all figured out, Baam!!! another twist. I for sure thought that E.J. was Ethan and the he was the villain in this story. Never would have imagined that Trish was the real villain. ( )

While out house-hunting, newlyweds Tricia and Ethan wind up in an abandoned house in the middle of nowhere during a blizzard. They are stuck for the weekend. As it turns out, the house, once owned by a years-missing, presumed dead psychiatrist, has an eerie feeling to Tricia; as if someone is watching them. Tricia decides to read a book from the doctor's enormous collection, pulls The Shining off a shelf, hears a 'click', and watches the shelf move. Behind the shelf is a hidden room where Tricia learns the good doctor has kept a secret: she records every patient's visit.

Curious by nature, Tricia decides she will listen to just one tape, maybe two or three, but won't tell Ethan. As with the doctor, this is only one of many secrets Tricia keeps to herself. She will come to find out Ethan too, happens to be hiding a few things. As the layers of deceit peel back, the bodies crop up in Never Lie.

This is a fun, easy, super quick read. I will be on the lookout for more books by Freida McFadden. ( )
