The Sins of the Fathers is a gritty mid-century family saga about a hardscrabble, multi-generational, multi-ethnic family set on the Western Slope of the Colorado Rockies. Glenn Steele is the son of an abusive Indian hating father. When his father launches into a drunken rage and attacks Glenn's younger brother with a knife, Glenn intervenes to save him. But his action triggers his father's banishment from the household by the authorities. Twelve-year-old Glenn must now fend for his mother and siblings as head-of-household and is burdened with guilt for his role in his father's banishment. Years later, Glenn's granddaughter discovers through DNA that she is part Indian. This sets in motion a road trip to the Mogollon Range in Arizona in an old pickup truck called McTavish. Glenn, his daughter Molly, and granddaughter Allie set off to learn the source of the unexpected genes and truths about his father that might set him free from a lifetime of guilt.… (plus d'informations)

A wonderful story of the three generations of a troubled family. ( )

I enjoyed this book and thought the plot was good and it kept me attentive. I wish it was a little better edited. I think there are some areas that could be cleaned up to make it even better. ( )

Once I was able to look past the multitude of writing errors, I was able to enjoy the storyline and theme of this book. Redemptive stories do hook me into finishing a book that I may not initially appreciate. I wasn’t a big fan of the characters, but that might have had something to do with the dialogue which was difficult to follow due to punctuation problems. I appreciate the author using characters who confront their demons and are willing to change for the better.
I received this book as part of LibraryThing’s Early Reviewer program and I am submitting this review as part of their agreement. ( )

Slow start but I persevered and once into it, had to keep going. My type of book, with a great story line but more importantly, believeable characters. I could easily see the books characters in real life. Would def. reccomend.

Glenn had a life no one should encounter. Later in life, his granddaughter and daughter, with him along, went to find their "roots"! There was a rape, a death, murder, a child and more. Could history repeat itself? At times, this book was a real page-turner. This certainly was a great read with fear, duty, love, hate and the needing of the truth! ( )
