This book covers a lot of the subtleties that make us human. I like that it’s an account of the author’s life and a “self-help” guide that can be applied to most stages of our lives. It truly is a book meant to uplift others. Markey has traveled quite a bit and seen many of what makes people human.

The book has a good number of quotes, as well as quotable lines. One of my favorite sections is about Markey’s friend, Elaine, and Elaine’s mother. I read this book at a time when friends made themselves available to me in times of need, so this section, in particular, struck a cord. The struggle and determination to be there for someone, to show kindness, transcends faith and decency and shows us what we are at our core: caring and beautiful creatures.

Overall the writing is solid; the book is a great read. There is a good amount of faith-based discussion, but it’s not preachy or overwhelming; so if that’s not your bag, don’t let it deter you. ( )

This is a self-help book to help you in your journey for a good and fulfilling life. It is very spiritual in nature, quoting Scriptures and referencing God and prayer on many occasions. The first part of the book details the authors journey including all her troubles she experienced in marriage, in friendship, in situations which caused her to leave her country. The second part of the book focuses on helping you to transform your life. It provides charts, questions, reflections, and places for introspection.
Reading the author's journey made me recognize more clearly how each person's life is very different. She suffered abuse by her first husband, prejudice and racism in her country, criminal encounters, and terrible loss of her friends. However, she relied on her faith and her inner strength to move forward.
While I am not a fan of self-help and spiritual books, I thought the author's approach, especially the second part of the book, was well done. ( )

Composed like the rock of Gibraltar Kelly Markey’s life spells resilience and speaks of sensational encouragement. A sassy South African native transitioned to a proud citizen of New Zealand and now happily domiciled in Australia. Markey's life and knowledge has touched and conveyed hope to souls globally. I found her candour greatly increased my level of connection to the book, and I definitely bonded to her life and experience journey. Markey's passion is in helping others create an enhanced version of themselves and thus impact humanity in a positive fashion.
She writes from experience acquired personally and shares her insights in a knowledgeable way from a place of confidence and wisdom. ( )
