Mallon was an interesting and quick read. I would like to preface this by saying that I am by no means an expert on poetry and I can be rather picky when it comes to short stories. I like that the author included where their inspiration for each story/poem came from, it added an additional depth to the writings. Overall the writings generally had a common theme of nature, which I loved and the extra elements about witchcraft were also a nice touch as witchcraft tends to be so closely associated with nature. The writing was simplistic which at times I enjoyed and could be impactful but at other times seemed a little too simplistic. One of the first stories turned into a love story, I wasn’t sure what I was expecting for the story but I felt it was rushed (even for a love story) and underdeveloped. I enjoyed the story otherwise but wish there was more of a build up for the love story. There were parts that felt forced or out of place (although perhaps true) like the explaining of what a pub and beer are, I would rather know more about their love. I know writing short stories is very difficult, so I do commend the author on the story. My favorite writings were the poems that were inspired by other poets. I absolutely loved these! The imagery was so beautiful and whimsical. I would love to have had even more poems like these! The Network of Trees was incredibly sad and powerful. This book is perfect for those looking for a light read, beautiful scenes, and yearning for a closeness to nature. I can hear some of the pain and fond memories the author had for that place just in reading the lovely lines of prose. A wonderful collection to be sure! aucune critique | ajouter une critique
