Even though it is more of a souvenir than a drawing book, it does illustrate how to draw the characters from Peanuts by starting with shapes. It gives instructions for most of the characters that we have come to love (but not Freida and Sherman) and many of them in poses that we recognize -- Schroeder at the piano, Charlie Brown missing the football again, Linus with his blanket, Spike sitting next to the cactus, and more.
There is a two-page spread of expressions that I found helpful. (But I always find instructions on expressions helpful; such a page is the first thing I look for in a drawing book.) The instructions in the book are breezy and encouraging.
Since Schulz is given the byline, I would have appreciated quotes from him or his characters. This would have also given the short book more breadth -- a book one might thumb through on a slow day.
If you adore Peanuts, add this book to your collection; if you are looking for a drawing book, this one is narrow in its scope and limited in its usefulness. ( )
