The book jumped all over making it hard to keep track of the characters. ( ) I'm disappointed and couldn't finish. I liked The Lost Apothicary, and this also seemed like it shouuld have been great, but I kept putting it down because it seemed like a first poorly put together story. I've seen it called ameturish and I would agree, thought I did well to get ot page 129...but no further. The London Séance Society by Sarah Set in 1873 Lenna is set on uncovering the truth of her Sister Evie's Death. She teams up with renowned spiritualist Vaudeline D’Allaire. Vaudeline is infomous for conjuring the spirits of murder victims to find out who killed them. The women delve into the spirtual world specifically the exclusive London Séance Society, one in which only men are allowed. As they get closer to the truth, secrets slolwy surface and lives are in danger. The story moves at a steady pace told in alternating voices. With knowledge of the spirtiual world, belivable plot and lialabe characters. This slow burn had me hooked from the first page. Sarah Penner is definitely and Author to follow. I look forward to more of her work. I highly recommend The London Séance Society to those who enjoy Historical crime/suspense with a paranormal twist. Truly a good read. If you like historial fiction and the occult, this is a book for you. I enjoyed the heft that the female characters carried in this story. They were strong women, but the author kept with the historical facts and gave them only the power that they could reasonably have in that time period. I did enjoy reading the way the author procured power and flaunted the gifts that females had in that age. Women always hold power, no matter what the time period and it's a treat to read about women using that leverage in a time when women traditionally were relegated to the background. The details are tricky so pay attention to the plot. I enjoyed the romantic complications throughout the story all around. Love permeated the novel in so many ways and I appreciate the author's skill in weaving it throughout in many different ways. The seance details were mesmerizing and give you a look into that time period. What a fascinating read. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
May mercy be upon the man who finds himself the enemy of a vengeful medium. 1873. At an abandoned chateau on the outskirts of Paris, a dark seance is about to take place, led by acclaimed spiritualist Vaudeline D'Allaire. Known worldwide for her talent in conjuring the spirits of murder victims to ascertain the identities of the people who killed them, she is highly sought after by widows and investigators alike. Lenna Wickes has come to Paris to find answers about her sister's death, but to do so, she must embrace the unknown and overcome her own logic-driven bias against the occult. When Vaudeline is beckoned to England to solve a high-profile murder, Lenna accompanies her as an understudy. But as the women team up with the powerful men of London's exclusive Seance Society to solve the mystery, they begin to suspect that they are not merely out to solve a crime, but perhaps entangled in one themselves.
