Wry, funny and rhyming poems about bugs, including poems for two voices. A fave includes "Roaches." Harrison, D., & Shepperson, R. (2007). Bugs. City: Front Street. The theme of this anthology of poems is about bugs. The subject is very appealing to young boys, but the poems in this book are enjoyable and funny to read for boys and girls of any age. Most of these poems are very short and cover the elements of poetry such as rhythm, rhyme, and simile. Two poems that use onomatopoeia are “Worm,” and “Bees.” Many of the poems use repetition. There are also about four poems that are written for two voices. There are also several poems that use shape and the placement of the words to make it more interesting. Each poem is also accompanied by a clever illustration, making them all the more amusing. These poems are very imaginative and make reading about bugs fun. This book was very reminiscent of Shel Silverstein’s work: short, silly poems, simple black-and-white drawings to accompany the poems, good use of the whole page for spacing out the poems, a humorous theme throughout the whole book. I wouldn’t say that the illustrations in this book were as pretty as the ones in others I've read, but in a way, I liked that. I felt it allowed the words to take center stage, instead of being over-shadowed by all the color and art-work. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
