Mobil Travel Guide through a unique partnership with the National Scenic Byways Program have come together to offer auto travelers an exciting and historically significant American experience. America's Byways: The Mountain Region highlights famous drives throughout Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah and Wyoming with Mobil Travel Guide rated lodgings and restaurants along each route. Under the National Scenic Byways Program, the U.S. Secretary of Transportation recognizes certain roads as National Scenic Byways or All-American Roads based on their archaeological, cultural, historic, natural, recreational, and scenic qualities. There are 95 such designated byways in 39 States. America's Byways are a distinctive collection of American roads, their stories and treasured places. They are roads to the heart and soul of America. Take a mountain adventure through the Top of the Rockies National Scenic Byway where the cool mountain air and fresh scent of pine trees will beckon you. Towering peaks flank the highways with open "lowlands" giving drivers a rest from steep mountain passes. This byway will also take you through two different national forests. Or head to the historic Route 66 - New Mexico and cruise the charm, the history, and the atmosphere that makes up "The Mother Road" and brings travelers from all over the world to experience America the way it should be experienced- down a stretch of highway where "anything goes" is literal. From ancient pueblo cities that are still inhabited to abandoned motels and neon signs that represent an era of mobility and change, Route 66 in New Mexico is an eclectic mix of ancient and contemporary cultures that somehow seem to exist in harmony. Along with information about each byway, including an overview, quick facts such as length and typical drive times, and descriptions of the byway's intrinsic qualities, the book offers Mobil Travel Guide rated and recommended lodgings and restaurants along or near each byway, along with things to see and do along the way.… (plus d'informations)
