This book would have you believe that Emmeline and William were the best of friends yet the sex was so bad that they opted to communicate through servants for their eight years of marriage. I gave up when they decided to go orphan shopping after both their rich neighbour and poor tenant refused to let them "borrow" their children. Despite what it looks like, this book is NOT a romance. It is a story about a couple raising kids for a couple of months and the shenanigans that ensure. I think this book could have been greatly improved by shortening the length. The same conversations were happening over and over again. Age: adult Series/Standalone: standalone Content: Rating: 3/5 Stars Something in the Heir...even the title is creative! I loved this clever, if somewhat predicatable, story of Will and Emmie, who have been married for 8 years. Emmie has told her family she has 2 children in order to keep the family home only...she's never had children. When her grandfather insists on meeting the youngsters for his birthday celebration, chaos ensues as Emmie has to confess to Will that she's been lying to her family all this time. The two team up to find children they can borrow, eventually ending up at a London orphanage. Laugh-out-loud funny at times, but also heartwarming. Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book in return for my honest review. All opinions are my own. Suzanne Enoch has a beautiful talent for crafting fun, entertaining tales with more than a touch of chaos. Something in the Heir is an excellent addition to that collection. Will and Emmie have their hands full, and it's a blast to watch. Full review: https://rebeccasreadingcorner.blog/review-suzanne-enoch-something-in-the-heir/ aucune critique | ajouter une critique
Emmeline and William Pershing have enjoyed a perfectly convenient marriage for eight years. Their relationship is a seamless blend of their talents and goals. They've settled into separate, well-ordered lives beneath the same roof, and are content to stay that way--or so Emmeline thinks. And if William has secretly longed for a bit more from the woman he adores, he's managed to be content with her supreme skills as a hostess and planner, which has helped him advance his career. Then when Emmeline's grandfather, the reclusive Duke of Welshire, summons them both for his birthday celebration and demands they bring their two little angelic children, William is stunned to discover that his very proper wife invented not one, but two heirs to fulfill the agreement for living at Winnover. But surely if Emmeline and William team up and borrow two cherubs to call their own, what could go wrong? Enter George, age eight, and Rose, five--the two most unruly orphans in Britain. As the insanity unfolds, their careful, professional arrangement takes some surprisingly intimate turns as well. Perhaps it takes a bit of madness to create the perfect happily ever after.
