This book was a pretty well written YA dystopian. I enjoyed reading it and devoured it in 3 days ( )

Reminiscent of Blade Runner as well as numerous YA dystopian tales, this holds its own with those I've read and very much liked. The city where Fenlee lives (or more appropriately survives), is realistic and ominous. Her connection with her friends and her adopted brother are strong and I particularly liked her determination to make things as well as fight on when situations seem impossible. I'm very curious as to what comes next. ( )

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

#iReadBookTours

CHILD OF ETHERCLAW by Matty Roberts is a Sci-Fi/Dystopian Young Adult Fiction that I found very interesting. I was actually surprised at how well I enjoyed this one! The beginning did get a little creepy when Fenlee and her younger adopted brother Elliot were sneaking through the Undercity dodging drones, sadly the two live in the very bottom of the towers, the top ones saved for those more wealthy. But the driven plot is pretty fast and keeps readers attention well. The characters are well created and played their parts well as each scene was so vividly described. I have to admit sometimes I was kinda lost in the story but then I picked it back up ok. But that’s just me not the author or the story.

I think younger readers will really enjoy this story that is geared toward this age. I highly encourage you to check out this book if you enjoy the Sci-Fi/Dystopian genre.

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255. ( )

"There were only a few moments Fenlee had ever wished she could capture and hold on to, and this was one. It wasn’t the life she’d ever expected, but it was hers. And she wasn’t afraid to live it."
This book captured my attention from the first page and kept it until the very end! If it weren't for work being as crazy and exhausting as it is, I would have read this in a single sitting.
There was something familiar about this book, and yet it was beautifully unique. The world building was incredible. I enjoyed reading about this very class driven cyberpunk world in which you can't easily get the materials needed to be a stereotypical cyberpunk character. I loved reading about Fenlee's explorations of the Undercity (even if things can get rather grotesque down there). Unfortunately, this world is all to believable. All the sadness and destruction and corruption is already a reality, even if it hasn't quite escalated to this level yet. I liked that although technology to fix things exists, Fenlee's struggles as am amputee are still explored. I loved that this was simply a part of her and not treated as a big thing - exactly how representation should work!
I loved the characters! I enjoyed seeing Fenlee's growth and her learning to see the reality of things she once overlooked. I wonder what will happen in the next books in this series: What will the consequences of Fenlee's somewhat terroistic actions be? How does etherclaw actually work and how will it help her? Who will stand by her in the chaos that she started? I can't wait to find out!
My only complaint about this book is that it seemed a bit too easy for Fenlee and Elliot to sneak around a city with constant surveillance. Even when she was wanted, she was still able to go to work and survive in the presence of surveillance drones and biosignature scanners.
I can definitely recommend this book to livers of scifi and cyberpunk. I could definitely see this action filled plot drawing in any reader that loves these genres. You'll be drawn into this crazy yet far too real world quickly and be sad when it spits you out again. I could definitely see this plot making a memorable movie too.
I'd like to thank this author for the amazing book and for all their (yay! A fellow enby) help in me being able to access it. I look forward to reading more of their works in the future. ( )

Child of Etherclaw starts off the first book from the Etherclaw series by Matty Roberts. It is, also, my experience in reading anything by this author. Even though, I am not a huge fan of sci fi tales, I was still intrigued with the cover and had to open it up to find out what it was all about. I thought it was a really good read. I enjoyed being taken to another world for a while and escape everyday life for a few hours. I loved the characters of Fenlee and Elliot. The author does a great world does a great job describing the fictional settings that made me feel as though I was right there taking the same journey. The book was full of adventure, danger, mystery and suspense. It was not one that I could easily guess as to what was going to happen next and had to keep reading until the end.

Child of Etherclaw will be getting four stars from me. I know readers and fans of young adult, fantasy, dystopian and science fiction will want to snatch this one up. I believe they will not be disappointed. I will be on the lookout for the release of the next installment from the Etherclaw series to see where Matty Roberts’ imagination will take their readers to next. This one is definitely worth a read.

I received a paperback copy of Child of Etherclaw from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion. ( )
