She was only allowed to bring one toy. A little sheep. She is able to use her imagination and make toys out of cast-off things. However, her little brother only has one friend… her. So, she decides to help him out and make him a new friend of his own. This was a lovely story with lots of heart. ( ) Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live on the moon? In this sweet story Molly, her mother, and little brother all move to the moon. Molly only has one toy because you can't take much with you to the moon. She uses items in their underground bunker to play with. One day she gets upset at her baby brother for touching her one toy. Soon she realizes he doesn't have anyone to play with but her. She sacrifices one of her favorite things to make him a friend. A wonderful story about using your imagination, problem solving, and thinking of others. The pictures are beautiful. Although Molly and her family have dark skin tones, there are no other multicultural aspects to the story. A very generic multicultural book. Molly "moved to the Moon to an underground room," on a rocket with her mom and little brother Luke. Because their module is small, each child is allowed to bring only one toy: blocks for Luke, and a stuffed lamb called Lassie for Molly. But Molly also repurposes packing crates into a fort, a solar panel cover into a witch's cape, and tin cans into a tea set. When Luke takes Lassie, Molly is upset, but once she cools down, she realizes she has more to play with than Luke does. Molly asks her mom to help her cut up the witch's cape to make a stuffed animal for Luke, and the siblings play together. Gorgeous illustrations and some lovely internal rhyme (quote above), as well as the outer space setting and sibling squabbles, add up to an excellent story that stands up to plenty of re-reading. MOLLY ON THE MOON, written by @maryrobinettekowal and illustrated by @dianamayoillo from #roaringbrookpress, is a beautiful story about the power of creativity, sharing, sibling love, and science. This is Mary Robinette Kowal’s first children’s book and it’s just a brilliant as any of her other books. I had not experienced Diana Mayo’s art before, but it is charming and captures Mary Robinette’s story perfectly. I appreciated the afterword from MRK discussing some of the science behind living on the moon in terms that young readers will understand. Molly lives with her mother and baby brother in an underground room on the Moon, and there is very little room for toys; Molly is good at making things for herself, but her brother is too young, so she has to learn to share. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
