From UK bestselling author Gillian McAllister comes an astonishing, compulsively twisty psychological thriller about a mother who witnesses her teenage son stab a man and then seizes on an unconventional way to try to save him. Can you stop a murder after it's already happened? Late October. After midnight. You're waiting up for your seventeen-year-old son. He's late. As you watch from the window, he emerges, and you realize he isn't alone: he's walking toward a man, and he's armed. You can't believe it when you see him do it: your funny, happy teenage son, he kills a stranger, right there on the street outside your house. You don't know who. You don't know why. You only know your son is now in custody. His future shattered. That night you fall asleep in despair. All is lost. Until you wake ... and it is yesterday. And then you wake again ... and it is the day before yesterday. Every morning you wake up a day earlier, another day before the murder. With another chance to stop it. Somewhere in the past lies an answer. The trigger for this crime--and you don't have a choice but to find it.… (plus d'informations)

Gillian McAllister, where have you been all my life?! This was a fantastic book, with a unique plot and very well written.

Jen, an attorney in her dad's firm, has been married to Kelly for twenty years; they have one child, Todd, and a pretty average life, until Todd kills a man in front of his parents.

Following Todd's arrest, Jen wakes up the next day, but instead of being tomorrow, it is the day before the murder. As Jen wrestles with her sanity, she grapples with how to keep Todd from killing the stranger. When Jen wakes up the next day, it is now two days before the murders, and so on.

Jen begins to realize she is the only person experiencing this backward time travel and uses it to her advantage to find clues and figure out why her son is a killer. As she goes back in time, Jen begins to question everything she ever knew about her life: Is her husband really who she thought he was? What about her Dad? And herself?

At the end of the book, Jen and Kelly meet for the first time, twenty years earlier, and Jen is finally able to piece the puzzle together.

If you are looking for a unique read - this one is it! ( )

This time-travel novel started off with a lot of promise, but went on a bit too long for me, as the main protagonist went many years back in time. Jen watches through the window as her son, coming home late one evening, stabs and kills a man. But the next day, it hasn’t yet happened, as it is the previous day. And each day she wakes, further back in time, until she is many years in the past. Luckily, she had a friend who could give her advice on this time traveling, and she knows she is going back to fix something; she just doesn’t know what. It’s an intriguing concept, if somewhat confusing. The characters are interesting and likable for the most part, but the plot is somewhat disjointed in the telling, a necessity in time travel. There are twists along the way, so pay attention to what is said, as well as what has happened, what may happen, and what has been stopped from happening, and it will all make sense. Maybe. ( )

Jen is taken off guard and is understandably distressed when, while waiting up for her teenage son to return home, she looks out the window and witnesses him pulling a knife and killing a man she does not recognize. She falls asleep that night in a state of turmoil, only to awaken the next morning to realize it's actually not the next morning. It's yesterday morning. And so the cycle goes.....each morning she wakes up a day (or week, or weeks) earlier and she soon realizes she's somehow fallen into a time loop in order to go back and save her son from the events of the future.

This has been on my TBR pile for a while and it did not disappoint. Part mystery/thriller and part "sort of" time travel, it reminded me of aspects of other books I've read, but it was unique enough to be refreshing and it had several plot twists that kept me intrigued. As with all books that have a time element such as this, I had to struggle to wrap my brain around some things, but not terribly so. Recommend! ( )

I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed this book. 5/5 solid.
A woman, a mother, a wife will do anything for her son, and that includes wanting to help so bad that she is able to go back and understand the who and why. True love transcends time regardless of what direction you travel. This story has intelligence. There’s a reason for everything and all the elements are linked appropriately. The things that are discovered and unfold are just so fascinating and entertaining. Things have to make sense for me to enjoy them and this story did it eloquently. For me, this was a new and exciting concept that was not a fantasy book. ( )
