A spinster by the Sea by Grace Burrowes The Siren’s Retreat #3 Miss Anne Baxter is at a bit of a loss deciding what to do with her future. She has money that should draw men to her like bees to honey, but so far has not managed to get a man to the altar…though she has been engaged. Taking a respite by the Sea with her widowed relative will give her time to make plans…or so she thinks. Will the myth and magic of The Siren’s Retreat step in to help before she puts her own plans in place? What I liked: * Anne: intelligent, well spoken, capable, from good bloodlines, socially adept, brunt of much gossip, orphaned at thirteen, financially wise, an heiress, attractive if not beautiful, intrigued by Augustus, the Duke of Tindale * Augustus: solicitor, recently inherited a dukedom, intelligent, kind, insightful, accepting, a good friend, wealthy enough, intrigued by Anne and wants her for his duchess * Lily: a client of Augustus’s, in a wheelchair most of the time, good friend, wise, caring, deserving of more than most offer * Knowing, eventually, what the truth is about the gossip around Anne * That so many at the house party found mates by the end of the event * All of it really except… What I didn’t like: * Thinking about women as commodities – they had little choice but to marry and yet in marrying they often lost so much. Did I enjoy this book? Yes Would I read more in this series? Yes Thank you to the authors for the ARC – This is my honest review. 4-5 Stars aucune critique | ajouter une critique

HTML: Heiress Anne Baxter seeks a repairing lease by the sea after she's left standing at the altar for the second time. To her utter mortification, the best man, Augustus, Duke of Tindale, has been invited to a house party at a nearby estate, and comes upon Anne trying to enjoy some solitude along the shore. Augustus believes Anne is far better off without the buffoon who jilted her, but knows polite society will hold the lady accountable for the failed wedding,... weddings, rather. He proposes to show Anne marked attention at the house party, in hopes that a ducal suitor will prove to the gossips just how lovely Anne is. Alas for Augustus's brilliant scheme, the best laid plans of dukes of damsels, oft go awry! .Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |

Their romance is very sweet and both hero and heroine fit well together. The additional characters fill out their roles suitably, adding to the story as needed in the style of a Shakespearean comedy with a bit more froth. ( )
