"After many years of happy marriage, Emma Knightley and her husband are throwing a house party, bringing together distant relatives and new acquaintances-not all of whom are well known to the Knightleys but are certainly beloved by every Jane Austen fan: Elizabeth and Fitzwilliam Darcy, Marianne and Colonel Brandon, Anne and Captain Wentworth, and Fanny and Edmund Bertram. Very much not invited is Mr. Wickham, whose latest financial scheme has netted him newfound wealth-and a broadening array of enemies. With his unexpected arrival, tempers flare and secrets are revealed, making it clear that everyone would be happier if Mr. Wickham got his comeuppance. Yet the Knightleys and their guests are all shocked when Wickham turns up murdered-except, of course, for the killer hidden in their midst. With everyone a suspect, it falls to the house party's two youngest guests to solve the mystery of who finally delivered to Wickham his just deserts: Juliet Tilney, the smart and resourceful daughter of Catherine and Henry Tilney, eager for adventure outside Northanger Abbey; and Jonathan Darcy, Elizabeth and Darcy's eldest son, whose adherence to propriety makes his father seem relaxed. In a tantalizing fusion of Austen and Christie, the unlikely pair must put aside their own poor first impressions-and uncover the guilty party before an innocent person is sentenced to hang"--… (plus d'informations)

It held my attention enough to finish reading the story. There were times where it was a bit confusing when someone was talking due to each character having their own POV in the story. ( )

An entertaining Austen fan-fiction type of novel, that's perfectly suited for a weekend binge read. The title is self- explanatory. :-) ( )

**I received an advanced reader's copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review**

It is not always easy to capture the essence of Jane Austen's characters in adaptations, especially when having said characters intermingle and become suspects. Overall, Gray does an amazing job at this task, setting a house party as a scene for Austen's characters (and offspring of other characters) to come together and for Mr. Wickham to be murdered. Gray crafts a splendid and plausible story for these connections. I did struggle a bit with Gray's interpretation of Fanny and Edmund Bertram, but that aside, everyone else seemed a bit true to form. The mystery itself was fun, with amateur sleuthing, red herrings, and a multitude of suspects showing motives.

I eagerly anticipate reading the next! ( )

The marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Knightley of Donwell Abbey had been a surprise to those who knew them best and not in the least surprising to those who knew them hardly at all.

(Fanny Bertram) “Doing what is right may be painful to us,” she said, “but doing what is painful to others is rarely right.”
Everyone turned to look at her (Anne Wentworth). When one spoke rarely, one's words were listened to more attentively. Anne had intuited this lesson long ago and wondered that so few people ever learned it at all.
There is no plan so pleasant, no expectation so cherished, that someone cannot be found to disapprove of it.
