A well written and illustrated graphic novel-memoir that tells the author’s story of what it was like growing up with ADHD, from the time he was diagnosed at age 8to when he left for college. He discusses the impact his diagnosis had on his life at school, at home and his relationships. He includes useful information for those who do not understand ADHD and for those who may have been diagnosed with ADHD. His memoir lets the reader and those with ADHD know that there are others out there going through the same thing as them and that it’s ok, that with the right treatment they will be able to properly manage ADHD. Thanks NetGalley for the ARC. This is the author's story of growing up with ADHD and its impacts on his behavior and the family dynamic. As a boy, Tyler was restless, impulsive and hyperactive. After his diagnosis, Tyler has counseling and is prescribed Ritalin. The treatments vary in their success but as Tyler grows older he comes to better understand ADHD and how to live with it. Occasional spreads explain scientific information about ADHD, drugs, and the workings of the brain. Revealing and informative. Readers will better understand ADHD or see themselves affirmed and recognized. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

"Tyler's brain is different. Unlike his friends, he has a hard time paying attention in class. He acts out in goofy, over-the-top ways. Sometimes, he even does dangerous things--like cut up a bus seat with a pocketknife or hang out of an attic window. To the adults in his life, Tyler seems like a troublemaker. But he knows that he's not. Tyler is curious and creative. He's the best artist in his grade, and when he can focus, he gets great grades. He doesn't want to cause trouble, but sometimes he just feels like he can't control himself"-- Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |

Good little memoir about growing up in the 80s with ADHD! Some misconceptions about the diagnosis are included for historical accuracy, and these get addressed in the more educational sections of the book. ( )
