Wiglaf, Angus, and Erica attend the Dragon Slayers Academy, and exclusive prep school for future dragon slayers. For a school project they are instructed to volunteer at Ye Olde Home for Aged Knights. During their time there, Grizzlegore, the oldest living dragon, tries to blackmail the school out of all it's gold. With the help of the old timers at the home, the three future dragon slayers save the day. The only real fantasy element in this story is the dragon. While the plot is original--it's cute how Sir Lancelot and other legendary people are portrayed--I would not call this book "ingenious". This seems like a poor take off of the Harry Potter series--two mischievous boys and a girl who live at a special school have adventures. Ages 7 - 11. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

The fantasy tale, complete with ink pictures at various times in the book, has a very tongue-in-cheek tone, with the students often using modern terms when describing the fantasy setting. For example, how many actual fantasy worlds have retirement homes for knights? The story ends up sending the message that no matter how old and frail you are, you can still improve yourself enough to save the day even if you work at it. This tale will certainly entertain any young fans of fantasy, and it's wordy enough that it won't embarrass those needing a little easier text. ( )
