Memoirs by the wife of Oskar Schindler, dealing largely with the World War II period. She was born in Alt Moleten, Bohemia, in 1907. In 1928 she married Schindler, who in 1935 started to work for the German counter-espionage service in Mährisch Ostrau. In 1941 they moved to Kraków, where he acquired an enamel works factory from a Jewish trader. The Jewish workers, taken from the ghetto of Kraków, were interned in Płaszów, which was under the supervision of the SS. Portrays the infamous Amon Göth, commander of the camp. In 1944 Płaszów was closed down. Schindler owned a munitions factory in Brünnlitz (Bohemia) and succeeded in obtaining permission from the SS to transfer 1,300 workers to that place. Emilie Schindler, risking her life, made an effort to improve their food rations, helped by a local landowner named Frau von Daubek. The Schindlers also saved the lives of 250 Jewish miners from Golleschau who were on the way to being executed, giving them shelter until the end of the war. In May 1945 the Jews in Brünnlitz were liberated. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
