Why I picked this book up: next stories in De Balzac’s book in The Banned Books Compendium: 32 Classic Forbidden Books by Gringory Lukin (Editor) I was selected for in April, 2023

Thoughts: Droll Stories, collection of short stories by Honore de Balzac published in three sets of 10 stories each, in 1832, 1833, and 1837, as Contes drolatiques.

This was described in this book as “Rabelaisian in theme, the stories are written with great vitality in a pastiche of 16th-century language. The tales are fully as lively as the author’s masterful cohumaine series, but they stand apart for their good-humoured licentiousness and historical wordplay.” This I unfortunately and strongly disagree with. I found no humor in this book.

Why I finished this read: I struggled finishing but since they where short I completed it

Stars rating: 1 of 5 stars as I found these stories not funny, tired of reading women outwitting men that were in power. Not worth reading IMO. ( )

not really my cup of tea. expected stories to be funnier. instead just how women inevitably outwit men who have all the power but are stupid. ( )
