This was a fun book to read. It's about vampires but not at all like the sparkly ones in the movies!

The day starts off like any other, but there's just a hint of emptiness in the air. Johnny Sparks can't put his finger on the reason yet but he's about to. He's also about to find out that his worse nightmare is coming true.
Along with the nightmare comes an unlikely ally by the name of Derek Darius. A local celebrity who is completely full of himself. It only takes about 5 minutes to hate this character.
A quest to save his wife Autumn is what fuels Johnny to push himself to the limits but what is it Exactly that fuels Derek more than the power of love? What secret is this Derek keeping hidden?
Along their journey they team up with and loose some people. This is a heart pumping adventure for everyone! Who will be the last one standing? I'll never tell...... ( )

Excellent book! Unusually written. There are occasions when the author appears to speak to us (the reader) directly, even though it's book characters don't necessarily have a lot of narration. We follow Johnny Sparks for the most part, but the narration bounces around to several characters in the beginning. I enjoyed how some characters we follow die before they even become relevant to the story. It was written similar to a horror movie. One time the author speaks to the reader by mentioning that the "Black girl" is not black, her last name is "Black". I was tickled by this illustration. It was unusual writing, some (actually most) of the characters were not very believable. That sounds bad, but it lent to the entertainment factor in this book. I enjoyed it enough to read it in 2 days. Also, appropriate for YA reading. Good first book Lundeen, looking forward to the sequel. ( )
