It took me a wee while to get into this slower paced story about Lizzy and her neighbours, but it didn’t take long to be ensnared in their everyday lives dealing with a change in their neighbourhood. I like how the author’s main characters included teenagers and children in the narrative. A real cross section of a neighbourhood. I did find some of the descriptive prose a bit lengthy at times but enjoyed the relationships of the main characters. I was curious and wondered to myself what type of story could be made from an instructional-like title on burying a dog. I thought of a story on dog rescues, on a family novel, and then on a book about a dog lover who needed to find their way. Silverfine’s novel encompasses all of this, more or less, but most importantly tackles the greater evil of when the land and earth around us is threatened. “How to Bury A Dog” is a story of fighting for the right to protect your home, to protect the land we all live on, and the fight to not get lost within ourselves. Eva Silverfine has written a beautiful novel full of authentic characters and very real situations that we are all facing — or going to face. Thank you for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. You'll grow attached to the cast of quirky characters. Cette critique a été écrite dans le cadre des Critiques en avant-première de LibraryThing. Interesting book. It starts out with Lizzy burying her dog. It goes on to deal with a land developer who wants to put in a subdivision that no one else wants. Very quirky characters. Still, I’d recommend it Cette critique a été écrite dans le cadre des Critiques en avant-première de LibraryThing. Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book as an Early Reviewer. No compensation was received other than the chance to read this work.Trigger warning: Discusses death, religion, describes euthanasia of animals (to be fair, the title is 'How to Bury Your Dog') This book, a slower-paced story about a year of grief and change for one woman and her neighborhood as it is threatened by development, is an emotional journey that shows that grief and change do not always have to be exclusive, or overpowering to change people's lives. The book did contain some mystical story elements towards the end, but they didn't feel contrived or tacked on. The point of view changes between characters, but it doesn't become confusing or overused the way this author has handled it. Recommended for: Those who enjoy a slower plot, Shelter Me by Juliette Fay, and books that have more introspective characters. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
On the day Lizzy buries her longtime pet, news of a threat to the heart of her rural community brings submerged memories to the surface, opening Lizzys self-contained world to two young neighbors, an awkward sixteen-year-old and an inquisitive ten-year-old.
