This short novel/novella begins the Drake sisters series. There are seven Drake sisters every generation and they all have interesting psychic gifts. Sarah is the oldest. She has precognition and works as a bodyguard. Her latest assignment is to keep scientist Damon Wilder alive. Damon doesn't know why he came to Sea Haven. Something about the place appealed to him when he retired from his secret government job and needed to recover from the torture he suffered when he was kidnapped by villains who wanted his latest discovery. When they meet, they are almost instantly attracted even while Damon hates the idea that he needs a bodyguard and hates putting anyone else in danger. Bur Sarah knows that Damon's arrival has triggered a long-standing prophecy - if she can keep him alive. The kidnappers are on Damon's trail and Sarah enlists some of the residents of the quirky seaside town to help her find them. She also has the help of three of her sisters who arrive soon after Sarah does. I liked the magic and I really liked the relationship between Damon and Sarah. The story was well narrated by Eve Bianco who managed both the pacing and the characterizations very well. Real quick and enjoyable read. I had actually stumbled upon the last book in the series so thought I would go back and see what I missed. Interesting because it starts to explain the sisters and their prophecy about the seven of them and what would happen to the seventh sister. Met the people of the town and now some of what happened in that last book make sense. I’m not sure why I read the sample chapter of this, but I did read it and was hooked. It is a several volume series about seven sisters with magic. The wind whispering Sarah’s name caught the attention of Damon, a man in part retirement part hiding. It turns out Sarah is there to protect Damon from people that want government secrets from him. As the story progresses you find out a bit more about her family and some of her sisters. I’ll probably read the next few to see how it goes. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

First in the Drake Sisters series from the "reigning queen of the paranormal romance"--#1 New York Times The story of Sarah, the eldest of the extraordinary-and magical-Drake sisters, now rewritten and expanded, in this very special collector's edition… "Sarah Drake has come home." Ever since Damon Wilder sought refuge in Sea Haven, he's heard the same breathless rumor pass the lips of nearly every local in the sleepy coastal town. Even the wind seems to whisper her name-a reverie so powerfully suggestive that it carries the curious Damon to Sarah's clifftop home, and seeks to shelter him there. But Damon has not arrived alone. A killer has tracked him to Sea Haven, and into the shadows of Drake House. But Sarah has her own secrets, and danger-as well as a desire more urgent than either has ever known-is just a whisper away… Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |

The only conflict in the story is a twodimensional clicheé group of villains that only exist for the purpose of being the villains, never creating more than very mild tension.
And there is some supernatural thing related to fate and death for a bit of ominous atmosphere.
The book suffers from painfully awkward exposition.
Honestly, it's all ridiculously cheesy and cringeworthy and without any sense of real danger but as it is just a hundred pages long I actually perceived it as light and refreshing but in larger doses, this would become very tiresome and boring very fast. I can not imagine how 7 consecutive books of this could keep any interest. You would need to be hardcore softcore I guess. ( )
