Sterling E Lanier, Gordon R Dickson, Lloyd Biggle Jr , and John W Campbell were all contributors to this anthology. Definitely hardware rather than "new Age" stories, but still quite entertaining. ( ) Analog 1 is a collection of short stories written between 1960 and 1963. Some of the stories are showing their age with respect to the time they were written but others still appeal today. #1 Monument – A shipwrecked planet surveyor provides the natives of the paradise planet Langri with a successful plan of battle for the future when they will find themselves face-to-face with invaders from space. Rating – 4.5 stars. #2 The Plague – There is a pattern to the way disease spreads – all you have to do is identify the pattern and perhaps you will also find the cure. Rating – 1 star. #3 Remember the Alamo – There’s more than one way to interpret that phrase particularly if you are a time traveler whose travels take you to an alternate universe. Rating – 4 stars. #4 The Hunch – If you are going to update your hardware make sure it is compatible with what you already have installed. Rating – 1 star. #5 Barnacle Bull – Exobiology can take many forms and may be found in places other than the surface of a planet.
