Cette critique a été écrite dans le cadre des Critiques en avant-première de LibraryThing. The Music Stalker is a prequel to Berger's Flight of the Veil. It is set up as Max recounting his sister Kayla's career as a musical child prodigy from 1963 to 1980. The characters are well fleshed out and the details about each character drew me into the story. I enjoyed the specific references to music and I even listened to some of the pieces Kayla was learning/performing while I read. The book deals with religion (specifically Judaism), schizophrenia and intergenerational trauma. I appreciated the sibling rivalry between Max and Kayla. There was a nice push and pull from Max’s perspective between being jealous of his sister’s success and wanting what is best for her. I found this book to have a slower pace than I was expecting. Kayla Covo is a child piano prodigy, the daughter of a psychiatrist father, Nicky, and one of Nicky’s former patients, Adel. In mid-1970’s New York City, Kayla vaults to fame, holding audiences in awe with her renditions of Beethoven and Chopin and winning their hearts forever with her warm smile and uncanny ability. But deep within her lie the seeds of her destruction: the genes inherited from her mother and the paranoid fear of being stalked by a murderous fan. Supported and yet oppressed by her devoted brother Max, Kayla struggles to find the right path. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
