Life is Messy is a wonderful book that came just in time to lift me out of my depression as I my prayers were not answered and I questioned why a half woman in a wheel chair is still here. I wish more people would read this book so that they will be inspired and inspire others! ( ) This book was a gift from someone I love, so I read it. Never would have chosen it for myself, and certainly never would have bought it. The book consists of 78 very short chapters (for lack of a better term), ranging from a half-page to five pages in length. They read almost like journal entries of someone dealing with some kind of (undescribed) painful life situation, with a lot of banality. The best part of the book is a segment Kelly didn't even write, when he quotes (in its entirety) Portia Nelson's "Autobiography in Five Short Chapters," which, for me, was new. Not sure what I'm going to do with this book - maybe pass it on to a mental health professional I know so she can pass it on to a client who might benefit from it, despite the platitudes. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

Life is messy. It isn't a color-within-the-lines exercise. It's a wild and outrageous invitation full of uncertain outcomes. The mess of life is both inevitable and unexpected. It is filled with delightful mysteries and frustrating predicaments. In our disposable culture we throw broken things away. So, what will we do with broken people, broken relationships, broken institutions, broken families, and of course, our very own broken selves? We are all broken and wounded. This book is about putting our lives back together, and allowing ourselves to be put back together, when life doesn't turn out as we expected it to. Based on his own heart-wrenching personal journals, Matthew Kelly shares how the worst three years of his life affected him, by exploring this question: Can someone who has been broken be, healed and become more, beautiful and more, lovable than ever, before? The answer will fill you with hope. There has never been a more urgent need for us to attend to what is happening within us. This is quite simply the right book at the right time.
