Les Dossiers Dresden, tome 2 : Lune fauve par Jim Butcher (Siesser)
  2. 130
Nightside, Tome 1 : Vieux Démons par Simon R. Green (amberwitch, plutoempress, lookitisheef, DovSherman)
amberwitch: A tough P.I. with a number of convenient talents making a living and trying to uncover the secrets of his own origin in the magical Nightside of London.
plutoempress: similar style, though i (and this is my opinion) find john taylor funnier than harry dresden.
lookitisheef: Jim Butcher and Simon R. Green both have created great supernatural male-lead detective series. I think they provide a nice balance to the girls-kick-butt series out there...don't get me wrong, I love the work of Kim Harrison and Laurell K. Hamilton (to name a couple), but it's nice to see that authors can create plausible male leads in the supernatural fiction world, too.… (plus d'informations)

Le dernier apprenti sorcier, Tome 1 : Les rivières de Londres par Ben Aaronovitch (majkia)
majkia: both involve paranormal mystery and smart-ass dialog.

Hounded par Kevin Hearne (clif_hiker, al.vick)
  5. 113
Rachel Morgan, tome 1 : Sorcière pour l'échafaud par Kim Harrison (cjacklen)
cjacklen: A crime-fighting witch quits her job to become a PI. Faster pace and more addictive than than "Storm Front".

    Neverwhere par Neil Gaiman (Polenth)
  7. 71
L'homme au torque d'or par Simon R. Green (dmacmillan, Scottneumann)
dmacmillan: Similar in tone to Butcher's Dresden Files but bigger in scope and with perhaps an even wilder storyline.

Les Sentinelles de la Nuit par Sergei Lukyanenko (FFortuna)

    Nightlife par Rob Thurman (gluestick)

Libriomancer par Jim C. Hines (kqueue)
kqueue: I found many similarities between Isaac Vainio and Harry Dresden. Both are cynical, powerful, heroes with a dark sense of humor, who are on the fringes of their official organization but are called in to save the day. Both books feature many mythical creatures, and have a good versus evil theme in a fast-paced adventure.… (plus d'informations)

The Devil You Know par Mike Carey (amberwitch, TheLibraryhag)
amberwitch: Same noir feel, more interesting first person narrator. Lovely London descriptions.

A Madness of Angels par Kate Griffin (amberwitch, questionablepotato, mysterymax)
mysterymax: Anyone who enjoys the Dresden File series would, I think enjoy the Matthew Swift books.
  15. 20
John Constantine, Hellblazer: Dangerous Habits par Garth Ennis (Cynara)
Cynara: I think Harry Dresden may be a distant, nicer relation of Hellblazer's John Constantine.

I read this over the weekend expecting a quick, pulp fiction read; surprisingly it was not. I found it to be a very good mystery book with a gritty protagonist who just happens to be a very powerful (if somewhat rebellious) wizard. Of course, there were a few sardonic situations that were darkly humorous, but that really did add to the developing tension in the story. In addition, the system of magic used was very well developed and would be at home in any occult thriller ... In fact, I frequently found myself nodding at some descriptive line of text thinking that it made perfect sense. On the down-side ... I pretty much figured out the who-done-it early on (there were too few characters to choose from really), but there were enough surprises after that to keep it interesting. I am looking forward to the next book in the series ... ( )

I'm so happy to have finally started this series! There were several books on the TBR list when I got the first nine Dresden Files books, but everything else can wait - I've been wanting to read these since 2007.

One book into the series, I'm not disappointed. I love Harry Dresden and his world. Jim Butcher gave life to a great character. When I finished this last night, I went straight into the next book in the series, but I forced myself to go to bed after a few pages.

I thought the actor/narrator did a great job. I felt he really added extra depth to the character with the sighing and hesitations etc. in the narration. (I see people don't agree with me in some reviews)

The 2nd in the series is not available to me on audiobook. I saw in some reviews that the 2nd & 3rd book aren't the best in the series. For those 2 reasons I won't be reading/listening to the next in the series.
-------------

I had taken a call while listening to this book and when I was done with the call I guess we didn't hang up and they got to listen to the "large scorpion in the elevator" scene. They told me later that they heard it as they looked at me funny. They acted as though I was quite odd. Like they caught me doing something questionable. haha nope just listening to a book. *shrugs* ( )

It picked up speed near the end. It seemed a bit clunky and dated all the way through. I liked the humor. Eh. ( )

Storm Front's premise is pretty slim.. But Butcher makes it work, through a combination of interesting characters, tight plotting, and fresh, breezy writing. This is definitely not deep reading, but it is a whole lot of fun.

Paranoid? Probably. But just because you're paranoid doesn't mean that there isn't an invisible demon about to eat your face.
"An actual wizard?" he asked, grinning, as though I should let him in on the joke. "Spells and potions? Demons and incantations? Subtle and quick to anger?"
"Not so subtle."
I realized he'd been giving me CPR. Eww.
