"Despite belonging to a family of four, the Aoyama residence is typically home to three due to father Akiyoshi's job. While he's away at work, mom Tomoko and her two beloved sons Hiroki and Yuri go about their everyday lives--going to school, making dinner, doing homework, etc. But now that Hiroki's in his first year of high school, his thoughts are turning ever so slightly to sex and romance... and his mom can't help but notice his slips of the tongue when he's talking about who he likes. Supportive Tomoko has an inkling Hiroki might be gay, but she's going to let him figure it out for himself. Unfortunately, Hiroki has little talent for keeping his 'secret,' so he might die of embarrassment before all is said and done!"--Provided by publisher.… (plus d'informations)

Heartwarming comic strips about a son who's just bursting out of the closet. Funny although there's really just one joke there. ( )

This was so charming I couldn't stop smiling. Everyone in this manga is precious and I love them. ( )

middlegrade/teen/adult Japanese manga translated into English; a mother keeps thinking to herself, " I think our son is gay" when she repeatedly observes closeted 10th-grader Hiroki talking about future boyfriends and boys he likes (the father is less observant, and possibly less supportive, though he does seem to care about both his sons).
It's supposed to be funny, and I guess it's nice to see a supportive parent in these situations, but it's a pretty simple "joke" that is just repeated over and over, like another unoriginal Garfield cartoon. ( )

This is book one of a new series from this debuting author in English translation. It is about the story of a mother who believes her teenage son is gay. It follows the daily interactions between the mom and son and some of the occurrences that allude to the possibility that he is gay. The mother reflects genuinely on the idea and tries to understand more so she can accept his lifestyle; all the while, the son is trying to live an ordinary high school life.

This is an excellent series because while it does explore LGBTQA+ themes, it centers more on the perspective of a family member than the typical boys' love romance trope. Plus, it gives the reader insights into Japan's cultural struggles with specific social issues, like tolerance and acceptance.

It is overall light-hearted, fun, and charming. A great YA read. ( )
