Business. Politics. Science. Nonfiction. HTML:

Ice on land is melting, and sea level is rising, both at astonishing rates never seen in recorded history. Are you, your property, investments, and family ready for these unprecedented changes? Read Moving to Higher Ground and...

Learn how Sea Level Rise (SLR) is unstoppable for many centuries due to excess heat already stored in our oceans - and how soon our shorelines will go underwater...

Understand how disastrous SLR will profoundly affect more than 10,000 coastal communities as soon as 2050, both in the U.S and around the world..

What will happen where you live? How much will the water rise? And when?

Find out why extreme weather events, forest fires, and flooding share the same causes as catastrophic SLR, but weather disruptions are temporary and SLR permanent. Devastatingly so.

Discover what industries and properties will feel the greatest, and earliest, impacts. Learn what all planners and coastal property owners need to know now to urgently begin to move and adapt.

Examine the unique problems faced by the military, Infrastructure planners, architects, flood managers, policy planners, banks, insurance companies, and real estate businesses. And some unique solutions.

Find out how and why government policy makers have been completely ineffective delivering any successful strategy for climate change and sea level rise.

Answer the questions, WHAT SHOULD WE DO NOW?, And what does THE PATH FORWARD look like?

In time of great financial and environmental peril, WHO WILL LEAD US? Prepare to be surprised at the answer.

John Englander is a renowned oceanographer and expert on climate change and sea level rise. His best-selling first book, High Tide on Main Street, was published in 2012.

This book is dedicated to everyone who rises to the bold challenge posed by the rising sea:

to the pioneers from whom I have learned parts of this incredible story and to all who hear the message, become teachers and "pay it forward."

When I taught management and leadership, one of the pitfalls we identified that undermines good decision-making is "the recency effect," the natural human tendency to assume that recent experience reliably predicts what will happen next. As much as we might expect the continuation of a hot streak, heads coming up five times in a row does not change the fact that on the next coin toss, the odds of either heads or tails are exactly fifty-fifty. Usually, this concept is applied to truly recent experience - as measured in minutes, hours, or maybe occasionally years. But what if "recent" happens to encompass all of human history? -Foreword, Senator Angus King
This book is intended for those who want to understand and plan for the significantly higher sea level that is now inevitable. -Preface, The Aim and Audience for This Book
In downtown Seattle in the late 1800s, flooding was getting really bad, particularly in the area now known as Pioneer Square, near the docks and Puget Sound. Back then, Seattle's problem was not rising global sea level. The land was actually sinking, but that has the same effect of submerging property as would sea level rising. That low part of Seattle was built up with waste products for local lumber mills. Over decades, this land fill became soggy, rotted, and compressed, causing the ground to compact and the buildings to subside. -Chapter 1, Past the Tipping Point - Higher Sea Level, Less Land
