In this new collection from World Fantasy Award-winner Jeff VanderMeer, car accidents, Angkor Wat, dead whales, flower vendors, dogcatchers, classic television shows, frogs, and the moon are transformed by the author's imagination into something unique and magical. The earlier poetry and short / flash fiction of Jeff Vandermer is evocative and really beautiful writing that takes on the surreal and natural world. These works give an insight into the more experimental recents: Dead Astronauts and This World is Full of Monsters and Komodo.

A great read and at least for this reader a book that does not read quickly for such a short volume. ( )

Short fiction and poems by Jeff VanderMeer. All were good, I enjoyed it. Until the last, because why in the world would you end your collection on a story about a dead dog? Dammit VanderMeer. Word to the wise: Do not read if you have recently had any sort of bad health news about your pets. "Oh, I only have this one story left, let's finish this book." I was sobbing.
