Pages 18-69 show Balkan imitations of Greek coins, the kinds called “Eastern Celts”. There are better catalogs on Eastern Celts in German. I know of nothing else in English on Eastern Celts except Derek Allen’s nearly-unobtainable 1987 catalog of Eastern Celtic coins in the British Museum.
Page 70 has two ancient forgeries of Bosporan coins. I didn’t know there was such a thing!
Pages 70-72 is imitations of Roman Republican denarii.
The next sections are why I bought the book. Nothing else discusses and catalogs the Eastern imitations of Roman, Byzantine, and Parthian coins.
Pages 73-89 is Danube imitations of Roman Imperial silver, gold, and bronze.
Pages 89-140 shows Taman Peninsula imitations of Roman imperial silver.
Pages 141-153 is Taman Peninsula imitations of Byzantine.
Pages 153-163 is Trans-Caucasian imitations of Greek.
166-178 is Sogdian imitations of Bactrian Greek.
179-182 more Bactrian imitations
182-183 Kushan silver
183-190 Copper imitiations of Parthian silver.
No Sassanian. Nothing from Iran after the Parthians. No Huns.
Page 194-246 is English language discussion of these types.
The book ends with a bibliography of mostly Russian-language books and articles on these coinages.
