Christian Nonfiction. Religion & Spirituality. Self-Improvement. Nonfiction. HTML:NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER For the weary, the angry, the anxious, and the hopeful, this collection of moving, tender prayers offers rest, joyful resistance, and a call to act, written by Barbara Brown Taylor, Amena Brown, Nadia Bolz-Weber, and other artists and thinkers, curated by the author Glennon Doyle calls my favorite faith writer.

Its no secret that we are overworked, overpressured, and edging burnout. Unsurprisingly, this fact is as old as timeand thats why we see so many prayer circles within a multitude of church traditions. These gatherings are a trusted space where people seek help, hope, and peace, energized by God and one another.

This book, curated by acclaimed author Sarah Bessey, celebrates and honors that prayerful tradition in a literary form. A companion for all who feel the immense joys and challenges of the journey of faith, this collection of prayers says it all aloud, giving readers permission to recognize the weight of all they carry. These writings also offer a broadened imagination of hopeof what can be restored and made new. Each prayer is an original piece of writing, with new essays by Sarah Bessey throughout.

Encompassing the full breadth of the emotional landscape, these deeply tender yet subversive prayers give readers an intimate look at the diverse language and shapes of prayer.

A fine anthology of Scripture, poetry and essays. A good resource for worship planning, personal prayer, and not bad as a daily devotional. ( )

A Rhythm of Prayer is a collection of prayers from an incredibly diverse group of Christian women. The inclusion of women from so many different faith traditions, races, backgrounds and orientations was so refreshing at a time when the Christian community has felt very divided. There are so many incredible prayers in this book that I can’t review each one individually so I’ll single out my personal favorite. As a person with a chronic illness, I found A Liturgy for Disability by Stephanie Tait to be incredibly moving. I’ll post the full quote when the book is released, but for now suffice to say that her prayer that people with disabilities would “experience dignity, acceptance and belonging” has become my nightly prayer. I know that I’ll be referring back to these prayers for years to come. My sincere thanks to, @netgalley, Convergent Books @randomhouse, and the fabulous @sarahbessey for this advanced review copy of A Rhythm of Prayer. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 #ARhythmOfPrayer #NetGalley ( )

Prayer as poetry, prayer as lament, prayer as meditation, prayer as connection to your body and soul, prayer as examination of your beliefs and politics and actions....this slim volume contains so many different practices to reframe prayer in your life. Beautiful and practical. ( )

Thanks to Edelweiss for the ARC!

This filled a gaping whole I didn't know I had. I mean, I have basically stopped reading or buying any "Christian women's devotionals" or anything similar as they come off as trite or thrown together. But this. This collection is real. Real pain. Real renewal. Real connection.
Did I connect with every single meditation? No. But still felt moved to see things differently, lament differently, try something I didn't know counted as prayer.

The only thing lacking? I wanted more. Each writer had such a unique perspective to offer and it felt like it wasn't enough to have one short excerpt or prayer. But if anything, it opened up a wealth of new writers to learn from. ( )

I am writing because sometimes
we are closer to the truth in our vulnerability
than in our safe certainties.

FOR RACHEL HELD EVANS:

Who gave permission to a generation,
Who made origami out of hate mail,
Who kept the faith,
Who told the truth,
Who dared to wonder "What if I'm wrong?"
out loud,
Who was willing to keep wrestling until
the blessing came,
Who pulled up more chairs to the Table and
scooted over to make room,
Who made us laugh and made us think,
Who was bold and courageous and kind,
Who would not be budged from her conviction
that this Gospel is Good News for everyone,
Who moved to the margins because she knew
this is the centre of God's Story,
Who never lost her love for telling that Story,
Who loved us,
And whom we loved.
Eshet chayil, woman of valour..
