I really liked the concept for this book and the skeleton of the plot. However, the writing style was bad. The dialogue was often awkward and confusing. It just didn't work for me. ( )

This was a fun read although a lot of set up before secrets were revealed which was a bit annoying. This I think is my first shifter paranormal, and it was nice that it was a Regency to make the whole experience comfortable. I really liked both Alfred and Felicity but am not sure if I’ll follow the series itself. ( )

Excellent! Not what I was expecting - I was looking for fluff, and figured a Regency romance with werewolves would do it. But the characters are true to Regency ways of thinking; their motivations and expectations fit the time, much better than your average Regency romance (which tends to have modern characters in fancy dress). They're also very solid characters, with their own motivations - nothing happens by author fiat, the characters act true to themselves. Much richer than I was expecting, so it took me rather longer to read than I'd planned - but definitely worth it. And I want the next book - is it Bates or Osborn next? Gimmie! ( )

A Wolf in Duke’s Clothing by Susanna Allen is the first book in her new paranormal series Shape Shifters of the Beau Monde. Felicity Templeton has been treading a delicate balance between appearing to take part in the marriage mart and making herself unattractive to suitors because she will inherit a large fortune on her twenty-fifth birthday, and she has plans. Alfred Blakesley, Duke of Lowell, throws a wrench into those plans because he’s determined that she’s the one for him. Add in an evil Uncle and a pair of nasty cousins who act as his minions in his attempt to steal her fortune, and Felicity is not left with a lot of choices. The paranormal elements bring to mind Disney’s animated Beauty and the Beast, and I sometimes struggled with my willing suspension of disbelief. I adored the heroine but found the hero to be rather bland. The heroine is determined to remain unwed until her twenty-fifth birthday to gain control of her inheritance, but the hero thwarted that goal due to desiring her as his wife. Add in the supernatural twists hidden in the shadows of civilized society adds another dimension to the courtship of the beleaguered heroine and strong, silent hero. Will the relationship of the couple run smoothly or will the paranormal secret keep them from falling in love?

I liked this new historical paranormal series written by Ms. Allen. I liked the strong characters, both supernatural and normal, as well as the background of this paranormal beings. I did find that the pacing was not to my liking but that's not a huge deterrent to the whole story. Overall it's an ice beginning to the series and I look forward to reading more Susanna Allen books in the future.
