Medieval setting with strong Norse myths flavour and a heavy emphasis on warriors, many of whom are women. In ancient times actual gods physically walked the world but they caused a terrible catastrophe and people descended from them are cast out and hunted down. The story is a real page turner and mostly successful in achieving suspension of disbelief. Recommended. If you're looking for a solid fantasy with multiple POVs and an immersive Norse mythology vibe, this is the book for you. Each character is well rounded and unique, giving an in-depth story from each perspective. They mythology was also rich and grand, really immersing the reading in the journey. I listened to the audiobook, which made keeping track of the names a bit challenging, so I would recommend reading it in print if that may be something you struggle with. But the narrator does an excellent job with character voices and storytelling. Definitely a high quality fantasy story, and I definitely recommend. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

"This is the age of storm and murder. After the old gods warred and drove themselves to extinction, the cataclysm of their fall shattered the land of Vigrio. Now, power-hungry jarls carve out petty kingdoms, and monsters stalk the shadow-haunted woods and mountains. A world where the bones of the dead gods still hold great power, promising fame and fortune for those brave - or desperate - enough to seek them out. As whispers of war echo over the plains and across the fjords, fate follows the footsteps of three people: a huntress searching for her missing son, a jarl's daughter who has rejected privilege in pursuit of battle fame, and a thrall who has cast off his chains and now fights alongside the famed mercenaries known as the Bloodsworn. All three will shape the fate of the world, as it once more teeters on the edge of chaos."--Provided by publisher. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |

I love the Norse mythos and the way that the author brought it to life.
The characters were great, and each brought a unique perspective that drew me further into this world.
There was action from the off and the battles were brutal in their descriptiveness.
The plot took a little while to get going, but the slow introduction paid off greatly in the end as everything came together.
As a start to a trilogy this book has got me fully hyped and invested. I am excited to see where the story goes from here. ( )
