This book was much different than what I usually come to expect from this author. There was still a sense of realness to the story that I enjoyed. She tackles some pretty heavy topics with this one and I appreciate that. However, I did find myself wishing that there had been more of a transition into uncovering those topics. At times it felt rushed or forced, as if the details were being put in the story to make sense because that was was expected rather than let the story flow and have those elements come out on their own. That isn't to say that they weren't needed, as the story could not have progressed without the explanation, but I just found myself wanting it to go easier.

As a child who lived through several foster homes, I both loved and questioned the story at times. Some parts of the story weren't plausible but then again this is fiction. Yet, it made me a little frustrated at times. However, I loved the message of the reasons why Blair and Rhys tackled the need or foster care and giving their love and attention to kids that were older and past the "baby" stage. I was one of these past the baby/cute phase, so I know how important it is to feel love, safety, and support.

I am not sure if this book was a spinoff of another book (it felt like it was with all the previous character mentions) and even though the story flowed without having read the previous story, it still felt a little weird to know that this circle of friends had all been in relationships with the others at some point or another. All that aside, I still enjoyed the story and look forward to what this author writes next. Solid 3.75 stars that I am rounding up to 4. ( )

I loved these two. I've been patiently waiting for Rhys to get his own book and I can honestly say that it worth the wait. Rhys and Blair had me glued to my kindle. ( )
