One of New York Times Book Review's "summer reads guaranteed to make your heart thump and your skin crawl"; An Amazon Best of the Month Pick; Named a must-read summer book by The Washington Post, USA Today, Vulture, BuzzFeed, Forbes, Entertainment Weekly, CNN, New York Post, Good Housekeeping, E!, PopSugar, CrimeReads, Thrillist, and BookRiot
Itâ??s November 1991. Nirvana's in the tape deck, George H. W. Bush is in the White House, and movie-obsessed college student Charlie Jordan is in a car with a man who might be a serial killer.

Josh Baxter, the man behind the wheel, is a virtual stranger to Charlie. They met at the campus ride board, each looking to share the long drive home to Ohio. Both have good reasons for wanting to get away. For Charlie, itâ??s guilt and grief over the shocking murder of her best friend, who became the third victim of the man known as the Campus Killer. For Josh, itâ??s to help care for his sick fatherâ??or so he says.

The longer she sits in the passenger seat, the more Charlie notices thereâ??s something suspicious about Josh, from the holes in his story about his father to how he doesnâ??t want her to see inside the trunk. As they travel an empty, twisty highway in the dead of night, an increasingly anxious Charlie begins to think sheâ??s sharing a car with the Campus Killer. Is Josh truly dangerous? Or is Charlieâ??s jittery mistrust merely a figment of her movie-fueled imagination?

One thing is certainâ??Charlie has nowhere to run and no way to call for help. Trapped in a terrifying game of cat and mouse played out on pitch-black roads and in neon-lit parking lots, Charlie knows the only way to w

I almost bailed at the beginning because it starts off with the girl making a clearly risky decision but after that hump it got significantly more interesting, overall it was twisty good but I didn't have enough draw to the characters to push it to great. The ending was clever and did explain away a lot of what I thought wasn't great. ( )

Started off slow, got better halfway through. Not my fave but I will continue to read books by Sager. ( )

I enjoyed the ride, no pun intended. I rated it 3.5 stars because I don't know that I will remember this much beyond tomorrow. I also found the "mind movies" a bit confusing at time. I don't know what actually happened and what was just in her head. I think that was the point, but even now I'm kind of confused on what actually happened. But despite that, I was looking forward to listening to it and got through it quickly. SPOILER: I didn't see it coming that the waitress was Maddie's grandmother or that Robbie was the bad guy - because why would he have let her go? I'd recommend if you're looking for a quick, easy-to-read thriller with a few good twists. ( )

Until about 90%, I thought Charlie (the main character) was the stupidest woman ever. She made a lot of dumb decisions. And things were assumed in the book that I don't think people would have realistically figured out so quickly.

Over all I enjoyed the book. Great twist that I definitely didn't see coming! ( )

The narrator ruined the book with her heavy breathing. Will read the ebook. ( )
