This book provides a wonderful end to the Specimen Chronicles series. The series provided gripping storytelling from its start with Specimen 959, published in 2017. The second volume, Echoes of Escharam was published the following year. It has been a long wait to read the conclusion, but it was certainly worth the wait. I have read a few negative reviews regarding the complexity of the plot and the large number of characters. I have some sympathy with this and in truth I can't recommend this as a stand-alone book for those reasons. It must be quite bewildering to read The Primus Initiative if you have not read its predecessors. However if you have read them then the cast of characters is simply a delight and you will be very eager to find out how the story concludes for each of them. This is an epic story with the satisfying complexity and intrigue of Dune. The full story begins with the first human contact with alien species and continues with the building of an alliance between most of those species and one deadly foe who xenophobia leads them to want to destroy all other sentient beings in the universe. Woven into that basic framework are many sub-plots. The characters are all well developed, over time, and feel three dimensional. The plot includes elements of political intrigue, criminal activity, romance and building strong relationships between friends across interspecies boundaries. The series is a tour de force and I wholeheartedly recommend it. Cette critique a été écrite dans le cadre des Critiques en avant-première de LibraryThing. I tried this book a lot of times since I got it. I really did. But every time I end up DNFing it because is just... boring. The premise sounded so good, but I think is the writing style that just wasn't for me.Cette critique a été écrite dans le cadre des Critiques en avant-première de LibraryThing. Clearly disappointing. A third, or more, of the book is lost in past references. It could be understood as a way to build up the characters, but not so. Just a few maneuvers, some gunfire, and that's all the rest. At the beginning I found it somewhat hard to keep track of all the characters introduced but as the book progresses each was clearly brought out in there role of this adventure. From the beginning your brought right into the war that is to be fought to save extinctions of many multiple civilizations. You follow Darrien and Onallin from their unusually meeting to there fight over the Namadi nation and life together, A great read for all with many surprices and twists..aucune critique | ajouter une critique
