Years become decades dwelling at one place, one hill, one creek called home on the westslope open-woodland ranch belt of the Sierra Nevada. Season flows into season. Familiar trees, rocks, grass, birds, tools, old barn, repeated chores, studies, harvests, the same walks, the same walls. Within the everyday scene or event, hidden within the ever-close but rushed-by sight, we may encounter the transformative insight. Mind meets itself. Then begins the innerwork. Together here we engage what is most basic, most urgent. The poet offers not a thought-system nor a step-by-step method, rather offers an occasion to notice life's near-at-hand mystery, to note simple fact. In each of these lyrical or narrative poems we arrive at an intimate discovery, an immediate opneing, a something newly made one's own.
