An agoraphobe who pays to have the world brought to her receives a letter from a person she knew in her younger, wilder days when she wasn’t afraid of leaving the house. The only catch is that the person has been dead ten years. As she sets out to find the man—without ever leaving the house, of course—we get glimpses of her life. Great fun and insightful, Fischer has a keen eye for human eccentricities and psychology. Another humorous tale from Mr. Fischer. It tells the story of Oceane, agoraphobic ex-dancer, with an obsession for indoor travelling. After receiving a letter from her deceased ex, she hires the likes of Audley, a seemingly unhinged debt collector, to help her in her mission of discovering more of her ex's letters. Weaving in and out of past and present situations, we follow Oceane and Audley in their short journey that has bought them to where they are now. Another tremendously funny, witty novel, with sarcastic undertones, It captures Tibor Fischers unique writing style and hurls it at you full force. The characters are well developed, the story easy to follow and funny. (I especially liked the section in Barcelona while Oceane is working at the sex club.) Definitely a novel for the modern urbanite. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
"Oceane, successful computer graphics designer and former dancer, likes to travel, but doesn't like to go out; in fact she never leaves home. Her solution is to bring the world to her South London flat using satellite, the internet and passing foreigners. Her lifestyle suits her until she starts getting letters from an ex - that's an ex who died ten years ago." "Utilising the services of Audley, failed mercenary and proprietor of the Dun Waitin debt collecting agency, Oceane has to start searching the world to understand her past."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc.
