"Sheer entertainment... Bennett infuses wit and an arch sensibility into her prose... This is not mere froth, it is pure confection." â?? New York Times Book Review

"[A] pitch-perfect murder mystery... If The Crown were crossed with Miss Marple..., the result would probably be something like this charming whodunnit." â?? Ruth Ware, author of One by One

The bestselling first book in a highly original and delightfully clever crime series in which Queen Elizabeth II secretly solves crimes while carrying out her royal duties.

It is the early spring of 2016 and Queen Elizabeth is at Windsor Castle in advance of her 90th birthday celebrations. But the preparations are interrupted by the shocking and untimely death of a guest in one of the Castle bedrooms. The scene leads some to think the young Russian pianist strangled himself, yet a badly tied knot leads MI5 to suspect foul play. When they begin to question the Household's most loyal servants, Her Majesty knows they're looking in the wrong place.

For the Queen has been living an extraordinary double life ever since her teenage years as "Lilibet." Away from the public eye and unbeknownst to her closest friends and advisers, she has the most brilliant skill for solving crimes. With help from her Assistant Private Secretary, Rozie Oshodi, a British Nigerian officer recently appointed to the Royal Horse Artillery, the Queen discreetly begins making inquiries. As she carries out her royal duties with her usual aplomb, no one in the Royal Household, the government, or the public knows that the resolute Elizabeth won't hesitate to use her keen eye, quick mind, and steady nerve to bring a murderer to justice.

SJ Bennett captures Queen Elizabeth's voice with skill, nuance, wit, and genuine charm in this imaginative and engaging mystery that portrays Her Majesty as she's rarely seen: kind yet worldly, decisive, shrewd, and, most important, a superb judge of character… (plus d'informations)

A brilliant premise, and delightful representation of Her Majesty, but I confess I got lost in the plot. The lovely portrayal of life in the palace (or Windsor Castle, usually) may have kept me so interested that I didn't pay much attention to the mystery. The hook is that the Queen solves the mystery, although of courses she must do so privately, using influence with her outcome rather than announcing it. But by the end I was impressed with her and really didn't care about the solution. ( )

A whodunnit solved by none other than QE II herself!

Loved this story about how the Queen is secretly a master detective solving crimes while nobody is the wiser except for her trusted secretary (always a woman)

This probably isn’t a book for everyone but if you know / care a bit about the royal family you’ll probably find it fun.

I’m totally down for this to be a series. ( )

The Windsor Knot is the first in SJ Bennett's series of mysteries featuring Queen Elizabeth II as the detective, although she is careful to give the credit to others. It was a fun, behind-the-scenes look at life as a monarch, and her sidekick(s) were all women who, as they moved on, served as mentors for the next generation of personal assistants. Philip is present as a supportive, thoughtful spouse, the corgis are always under foot, but the rest of the family is only referenced in passing. I have the next two books in the series waiting for me. Again, perhaps sooner rather than later, while I still remember the characters and could actually be caught up with the series. ( )

Another delightful tale about Queen Elizabeth 2 the detective. The best part of this book is how real she makes the Queen. The story is a bit convoluted and putting the solution in another person is dissatisfying. Still, I will keep reading these books. ( )
