I won this book January 2023. For some reason, I never received it.

This January, I contacted the publisher, who was generous enough to send me another link.

Alas, I tried reading this book and simply cannot finish. I am presuming I liked the synopsis because I requested it, But, I simply did not care for the way the story-line was progressing.

There is nothing wrong with the writing or characters. It is just vampire erotica is not my cup of tea.

Red Alert is the 2nd book in the Paranormal Crimes Division series by Tina Moss and it focuses on the relationship between Jame and Drake. While this is the second book in the series it can stand alone although the reader will be missing some back story and world building. Jame is a shifter and the newest special agent team leader for the Paranormal Crimes Division. Drake is a vampire who has recently joined her team. This was a pretty good paranormal romance, I thought it had a good romance, it was fast paced and had some excitement in the storyline. I wasn't wowed by the book but I found it to be an overall enjoyable read. I received this book through the early reviewers program for free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. ( )

Red Alert is the second book in the Tina Moss Paranormal Crimes Division series. I went ahead and read the first as I didn't now this was the second in the series.

So the second book is about shifter and Special Agent Jame Bradshaw, newest team leader for the Paranormal Crimes Division. She must deal with a mass murder in the Capitol building. I enjoyed the attraction between Jame and Drake, building on from the pervious book. An interesting read and I will read the next installment. I do hope that there's more emotion in the next book. I understand that this is early on in the series but I needed a little bit more emotion, not just this raw sexual need, so I hope the author delves deeper into the emotional side of both characters in the next book. I received a copy for free in exchange for an honest review.

When I requested the book, I did not realize it was second in a series so I found and read the first book first. I don't know if this book would have made as much sense if I hadn't.

The book is... Kind of boring. You would think with the description like that, that it wouldn't be. I love paranormal romance and I love stories like this. But I had to force myself through this book. If I hadn't received this as part of the early reviewers project here, I probably would have abandoned it. There were parts that were okay, but there was so much that was either too slow or too rushed. There is also a lot of lazy cliches. And there's no nuance in the characters.

Over all, pretty meh. ( )

2.5 starts. Some parts were just ok, some I liked.

I received a copy for free in exchange for an honest review. When I requested the book, I did not realize it was second in a series. The story is standalone, but naturally, there is a lot of back story and world building missing, so I would recommend starting with the first book.

Let's start with what I liked.
I think the world that is created in these books is interesting. It has some of the traditional supernatural aspects, and some new ones. It's well done.

The plot was engaging and pretty fast paced. There were a few times I felt like the team didn't catch on quick enough, or that they reacted differently than I expected them too, but all in all it was a good story.

And now the parts that I am just ok with:
The characters felt a little flat. I know that may be because I missed back story, but they were all missing some dimension. In some ways, I feel that they were all designed to fill a specific role and that they didn't stray far from the (almost) stereotype.

As I reader, I prefer a show, not tell, style of writing. Red Alert, for me, was a little to much telling. I didn't feel the emotions or the struggles, even when they were described to me. So much of the character's personalities are there instincts, and it was frustrating to read time and time again that something was bothering them, but not not actually feel that in the writing.

Although I struggled with parts of the book, I still think that it was an interesting story and would recommend for anyone that likes a good mystery with a side of steam. ( )
