This appears to be a very simplified adaptation of the 8th century folktale Urashima Tarō.

The original Japanese story being about a young fisherman who comes across a group of children torturing a small turtle. Tarō saves it and lets it go back to the sea. The next day he is invited to the Palace of the Dragon God. When he goes back home to see his aging mother, the princess gives him a mysterious box which she tells him never to open. But all is not well. 300 years have passed and in his anguish he open the box - which breaks the spell and (like in the story of Dorian Gray) causes him to rapidly age according to the rest of the world.
There is far more to this famous story; and it would obviously be much to dark to turn directly into a Disney story; so a lot has been altered or removed completely to the point where is only vaguely resembles the original tale.

Now, back to the Disney book:

The Wonderful World of Reading version finds Daisy Duck on her way to the shops where she sees an old woman walking in a storm. Daisy stops to give her a lift, but as a result the shops are now closed and she has no supper for Huey, Louis and Dewey.
The old Woman gives Daisy a basket of food and a box - which she is told not to open.
Inevitably the boys get up to mischief and open the box, which sends out a cloud of bees that cause much chaos! ( )
