3525. The Last of the Scottsboro Boys: An Autobiography, by Clarence Norris and Sybil D. Washington (read 12 Jan 2002) This is a 1977 book. I read Dan T. Carter's superlative book on the Scottsboro case Dec 7, 1969. This is a very different book, but equally compelling. Norris told his story to a tape recorder (I think he only got to the 2nd grade) and the account reeks authenticity. He and his companions were totally innocent of rape, and his account
of the trial he had, supplemented by parts of the trial transcript, are enraging and appalling. This is a stunningly good book to read and is surely one of the best books of its kind I have ever read. A wrenching story that held my attention throughout. ( )
