Unlike the Disney tale of Pocahontas, the true story of her legend greatly differs. This biography gives one a closer look of America's history and the famous Indian hero, Pocahontas, who's bravery saved many English settler's lives. Pocahontas first saved John Smith's life and convinced the chief to befriend Smith. Although, they befriended Smith, they struggled with trading goods and the friendship did not last. The English eventually have to kid-napp Pocahontas so that her father return the English prisoners and other items he stole. Pocahontas's dad refused to give up the items. This hurt Pocahontas, so she stayed with the English men in a new town of Henrico. Pocahontas learned the Christian religion and the English men's ways. She eventually married Rolfe, not John Smith, and had child with him. When they visited England, Pocahontas became extremely ill and died. I enjoyed this book because not only did I receive an interesting history lesson about the early settlements in America but I am also more informed about the great Native American Princess, Pocahontas! She and her father's compassion for other humans was the main reason for peaceful relations with the settlers.
