This easy reader is about the garden grown by a happy bunch of children. These children, as it turns out, are specifically growing pumpkins for pumpkin pie, which they happily devour at the end of the book. The art for the book is done in simplistic watercolors, and it shows three children with big smiles on their faces on every page. The book chronicles how the pumpkins are planted, watered, and watched as they grow, until they are harvested for pie and the seeds saved to be planted again.

The book is rhyming, making it easy for children to follow and comprehend. The story would be a good one to read about thanksgiving, when students will be happily munching on pumpkin pie. The story's only misgiving is perhaps in that it doesn't address one of the most popular uses for pumpkins; jack-o-lanterns on Halloween! For some children, that's probably more exciting than eating pie, and it's completely left out. Otherwise, the story is a cute little easy reader that will get a lot of use around Thanksgiving. ( )
