Codependent romantic relationship, and narcissistic father with unrealistic wish fulfillment. Pass. ( )

This was a great sequel to Fable. There were countless times were I felt like all hope had been lost, but Adrienne Young swooped right in and steered us back towards hope. I felt like the ending was very complete and we weren't left with any loose ends. ( )

This series was so refreshingly different. The concept was new and enchanting. The vivid colours encapsulated were simply breathtaking. ( )

Series Info/Source: This is the second book in the Fable duology. I bought this for my Kindle.

Story (5/5): This story was so good. Fable starts out the book as a prisoner to one of her father’s ex-thugs. Her kidnapping leads to a surprise from her past that she never could have guessed. There is a lot of amazing adventure, as well surprising twists and turns, and some intriguing intrigue in this book. Everyone around her seems to have secrets and she needs to survive both the unveiling of these secrets and her adventures to finally find peace.

Characters (5/5): This continues to have amazing characterization throughout the book. We learn some stunning secrets about nearly every character and there is a lot of character growth as well. I loved the characters in this story; they are so human and yet so hopeful.

Setting (5/5): We journey to a new part of the world in this book and it is just as amazing as all the places we visited in the first book. I continue to really love the description of the settings when Fable is doing free dives in the ocean. The description in here is excellent and settings really come alive for the reader.

Writing Style (5/5): This book is effortless to read, the writing flows beautifully and the amazing description makes the whole world really come alive. Everything about the writing here is perfection. I really enjoyed Young’s “Sky in the Deep” series as well. There is just something about Young’s writing style that really works well for me. I do think that this Fable series was a step up in quality from the “Sky in the Deep” series.

My Summary (5/5): Overall I really loved both this book and this whole duology. This was awesome young adult adventure fantasy at its best. The description, the world, the characters, the adventure...all of it was amazing. I would definitely recommend it to those who enjoy adventure fantasy. I can’t wait to see what Young comes up with next!! ( )

Namesake by Adrienne Young is the second half of a fabulous duology involving one of the toughest heroines you will ever meet. Fable is not just physically tough, but she has the mental fortitude to go up against the most heartless of merchants/mercenaries. This time around, we get to see Fable pit her wits against even more cutthroats and ruthless characters, and she doesn’t disappoint.

After a year of not going anywhere, the tropical setting of Namesake is enough to instill wanderlust in even the most agoraphobic of readers, and what a setting it is. Ms. Young brings the tropics to you with gorgeous descriptive passages that makes you want to find an old schooner and learn how to sail.

Namesake is exactly what you want in the end of a character’s story. Ms. Young closes out Fable’s story with numerous big reveals and clever twists, enough to keep you on your toes and prevent you from guessing how it all will end. At the same time, she makes sure to provide readers with closure, finishing Fable’s journey to find where she belongs in a way that is satisfying as well as enjoyable. Everyone gets what they deserve, even if it isn’t quite what you expect. I highly recommend both Fable and Namesake for the story, for the setting, and most definitely for Fable herself. ( )
