Live Every Breath like it’s Your Last

“She wanted people to know that love often lies in wait, ready to bloom when least expected.” ― Nicholas Sparks, Every Breath
I am so very behind on my book reviews and it is such a shame that this took me so long to put on paper because this book is one of the best reads of this year. I am talking about Every Breath by Nicolas Sparks. I will make it my mission to try and read more of Nicolas Sparks this year. If it’s romance, you’re looking for, then this is it! The is an epic tale of timeless love inspired by a true love story, that could only have been written by the master romantic novelist who has known both love and sorrow in his own life.

This touching inspirational story is one of love and loss, hopes and dreams, choices and challenges, and the regrets and sorrow that inevitably come from the meaningful connections we make over a lifetime. It’s a love story about forgiveness and integrity, about the power of unconditional love to endure the heartbreak and disappointment of life’s unexpected challenges; a love story about caring more about someone’s else’s happiness than your own. I loved going back to the past and coming into the future and seeing how the lives of the two main characters in the story lived and loved but never forgot about each other. Although it’s a bit of a departure from Nicholas Sparks’ romantic formulas, it’s definitely worth the read. Read it with a cuddly blanket and a warm cup of cocoa. It will capture your heart and literally take your breath away! ( )

I've loved a lot of Nicholas Sparks' works (Of course, the Notebook will always be one of my favorites), but this one didn't quite do it for me. I liked the story, and the premise, but it didn't suck me in the way some of his other books have.

First, the description and scenery were absolutely beautiful and well-done, and made me feel like I was there, under the cloudy skies, tasting the salt breeze. I've been to North Carolina several times and have always enjoyed my times there, and I wouldn't ever hesitate to return. I'm from the big city and something about going down South just charms me. Secondly, it's still a beautiful tale of love found, lost, and then found again. It reminds us that anything can happen, and if it's meant to be, it will be. The big reveal at the end did pull at my heartstrings.

Unfortunately, Hope and Tru's love seemed...forced to me, and I didn't feel any chemistry between them. It seemed as if they were building a friendship, and then just suddenly fell in love (for me, their declarations seemed like it came out of the left field). And while I liked Tru (and reading about life in Africa), I wasn't as big of a fan of Hope, though I can understand why she made some of the decisions she did. She just came off as so selfish and inflexible, for a man who is supposedly the love of her life. And the big time jump in Part 2 kind of threw me off and I lost whatever connection I had built with our two MCs.

And while the writing style was fine, I thought there was too much telling and not enough showing, and there were big sections of infodumps, some of which I felt like I had to slog through.

I don't regret picking up this book, though, and I wouldn't hesitate to read Sparks' works, again. ( )

Wow! This story was like an emotional roller-coaster for me. I was happy, then sad, happy again but sad at the same time. Nicholas Sparks touches my heart each time I read one of his stories, and Every Breath has kept this "tradition" alive. If you are like me, you will need to keep a box of tissues near by. ( )

“Memories are a doorway to the past, and the more one treasures the memories, the wider the door will open.”
― Nicholas Sparks, Every Breath ❤️

REVIEW: EVERY BREATH: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book was enjoyable for me. Readers who enjoy timeless, romantic, and classic stories will enjoy this book. Author Nicholas Sparks' introduction had me completely captivated and enthralled from start to finish. As I read, I found myself reflecting on my life and circumstances, as I do with so many meaningful novels. I had similar thoughts when I got to the last page.

If you enjoy Nicholas Sparks' novels, you will enjoy this one as well. It's all the characteristics he's well-known for. It's one of those stories that only he can tell.

Until next time,

Happy Reading,

Mysterious Shy
